Dreamcatcher 101 – A guide to the Nightmares of K-Pop
Nightmares! We’ve all had them, right? The only way we can escape from a nightmare is if we wake up from our slumber.
Nightmares are dreams that have turned bad or dangerous and quite frankly, they can be absolutely terrifying!
However, not all nightmares come in the form of bad thoughts when you are sleeping.
Meet 7 Dreamers who unexpectedly turned into nightmares and are in the form of human figures…In fact, scrap that, they are in the form of K-pop idols.
These 7 idols will become your nightmares if you sleep on them…it’s why their fanbase is named InSomnia…you get it now?

What is MINX?
If you have read a bit about Dreamcatcher you may have heard the term MINX a few times, so who are MINX, exactly?
They were actually Dreamcatcher before they became Dreamcatcher…let me explain.
MINX was created in 2014 with 5 members…not 7. The members consisted of Siyeon, JiU, Yoohyeon, SuA and Dami.
In 2016, it was announced that MINX would debut as a completely new group and add two new members, which were Handong and Gahyeon.
Here are a couple of MINX MV’s which were a completely different group to Dreamcatcher in every sense possible.
What are their songs?
Like I have said before, Dreamcatcher has a specific genre and sound to them. Let me explain what I mean.
When I say horror, I mean ‘The Shining’ type of horror in their Debut MV, ‘Chase Me’.
The Chase Me MV actually has references to ‘The Shining’ and I will give you some examples:
Dreamcatcher’s main title MV’s has an on-going story where each MV connects to each other and this is called the ‘Nightmare series’…however, they are not all in chronological order and as a matter of fact, the ‘Chase Me’ MV is not actually the first in the MV in the story even though it is their debut.
So, what I will do now, is show you all of the title track MV’s in chronological order which is a bit different from when they were actually released.
The released timeline would be like:
- Chase Me
- Good Night
- Fly High
- You and I
So, first, we have ‘Fly High’ which is the first story in the Nightmare series.
This MV shows JiU finding a spider and bringing it inside the mansion. It is said that a Spider is a mystical creature from Greek Mythology to African Folklore.
So, what do they do with this Spider? Well, Yoohyeon specifically, kills it. I think it’s because somewhere in the MV which we don’t really see, she turns evil or she is turning evil, so she decides to burn the poor thing with a magnifying glass.
This then puts a curse on all of the girls and then you start to see them all turn into Nightmares.
The next MV in chronological order is actually the ‘Chase Me’ MV and the story for this is that there is a ghost hunter hunting the 7 ghosts in a haunted mansion. The ghosts are Dreamcatcher themselves and if you keep watching the ‘Chase Me’ MV, you will find more clues to figure out this story.
Everyone has their own theory to the Nightmare series and I wouldn’t think that any theory was the wrong theory and there is no right or wrong answer.
I would post the ‘Chase Me’ MV here but I have already posted it within this article.
The next MV is the ‘Good Night MV.
Like I have said in the caption, the Good Night MV is a direct sequel to the Chase Me MV and it even says ‘To be continued’ at the end of the Chase Me MV where the Good Night MV will then continue from the end of the Chase Me MV.
The Good Night story is where the Nightmares are trying to escape from the Ghost Hunter and he is trying to capture them and just when he almost does capture two of the nightmares, the rest of the Nightmares manage to set them both free again and then at the end it will show you how the Nightmares have now trapped the Ghost Hunter inside the mirror.
There is also the scene where the Nightmares are walking in the woods with the spellbook the ghost hunter used on them and they suddenly drop the book which looks like they had done it on purpose.
The next MV in this story is the You and I MV.
Now, this MV presumably starts after the good Night MV and this is when you see Yoohyeon (The girl who killed the Spider in Fly High) is the only one who is trying to escape through a portal.
This tells me that throughout the MV, she’s the only one who can yet be saved and the other girls are trying to save her by trying to de-curse her…and yes, they are successful at doing it.
However, Yoohyeon then takes a photo of an older lady who actually turns out to be the spider lady…the spider lady then does something to Yoohyeon which has brought back the curse inside Yoohyeon.
You know when I said that you see Yooheyon trying to escape? Well, she didn’t make it in the end, so my guess is that if she would have made it through the portal, she would have been saved…sucks to be a Nightmare who is stuck in Dreamworld, huh?
The next MV is ‘What’.
So, this next MV is called What and if I’m honest, I’m still trying to figure out the ins and outs of this MV.
To me, this is such a good MV because not only is it great production but it is also a really good song and choreography.
In this MV, it seems like JiU is trying to find Yoohyeon in a dream and then she finds her, but like I said before, I don’t properly understand this MV and what it’s about. I do know that it is about anxiety and depression though.
You can also see the spellbook they used in the Good Night MV.
This is definitely an MV that you should check out!
The last MV I am going to show you for the Nightmare series, is the PIRI MV.
Now we have come to Dreamcatcher’s latest MV and most likely the last story for the nightmare series.
This MV shows you the girls trying to escape the nightmare they are in and at the beginning of the MV, you see Yoohyeon looking around the white room and looking lost and then touching the horn…she then drops the horn and then runs off and then it shows you what looks like blood pouring out of the horn.
At the end of the MV, we see that the girls have finally escaped…or have they really? Tbh it’s quite ambiguous and they could very well create an extended story for the Nightmare series if they wanted to. I totally wouldn’t mind that!
Who are Dreamcatcher’s Company?
Well, it’s simple really…they are called Dreamcatcher Company…
Of course, they weren’t always called Dreamcatcher Company, but they made the announcement in February 2019.
From 2008 – 2009, they were called Pungnyeon entertainment.
From 2009 – 2019, they were called HappyFace Entertainment.
From 2019 onwards, they have been named Dreamcatcher Company.
the point in this is that Dreamcatcher’s company must trust them enough to name their company after their on-going and hopeful Girl Group.
What are Dreamcatcher’s B-Sides like?
You may think that all of Dreamcatcher’s B-sides are like their title tracks, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Yes, there are some rock-themed music that Dreamcatcher provides, but it really isn’t all rock as they have a good few ballads like Trust Me and Lullaby, there is Sleepwalking which is a dubstep kind of song and they just like to explore other genres which is great for them to do as a group as it means they can show many different sides to them.
These are just a few of Dreamcatcher’s B-sides and if you want to look more into them, you should really check out their Youtube channels, which you can find here:
What are the Dreamcatcher Special Clip covers like?
Well, to give you a good idea, I will show you a few of the cover MV’s they have done.
8 Reasons to Stan Dreamcatcher…
If you have read this far, I really will congratulate you as this blog post was hella long haha.
However, I also want to thank you for taking the time to really get to know more about this beautiful group!
They are still a very underrated group and they need more exposure, so I hope by doing this article, I will have done my part to help even just a little!
I hope this will pique your interest in them and now, i will leave you with another little something that will hopefully be the icing on the cake.
Again, thank you so much!
