NCT WISH's October has been one long victory lap.
On October 12 at 6 p.m. KST, NCT's youngest unit returned with their fourth mini album "I SPY" and its title track of the same name. Two weeks later, the release has a million-seller badge, a music show trophy, and the No. 1 spot on the weekly K-pop chart — a clean sweep of the milestones a comeback can hit.
A million copies before the week was out
According to Hanteo Chart, "I SPY" moved 1,200,086 copies on its first day of sales alone, making it NCT WISH's second album to pass one million on release day after April's "Ode to Love." More tellingly, it is the group's fourth consecutive album to sell over a million copies in its first week, following "poppop," "COLOR," and "Ode to Love."
That streak is the real story here. A single million-selling debut can be chalked up to a hyped moment; four in a row points to a fanbase that shows up every single cycle. For a unit that only debuted in 2024, that consistency is unusually fast — most groups spend years building the kind of buying power that guarantees a seven-figure opening week.
First trophy on Music Bank
The wins kept coming on October 23, when "I SPY" took first place on KBS2's "Music Bank" with 8,352 points, edging out Sung Han Bin's "UNDEAD." It was the group's first trophy for the song, and it arrived just eleven days after release.
The episode itself was stacked — IVE, NMIXX, MEOVV, ALLDAY PROJECT, A2O LITE, and SEVENTEEN's JxJ (Jeonghan X Joshua) all performed — which makes the win a little more meaningful. Beating a strong field in a crowded October is a different accomplishment than winning an empty week, and NCT WISH already know how quickly a first trophy can snowball: "Ode to Love" went on to collect three of them in May.
Straight to No. 1 on the weekly chart
On the October 24 weekly K-pop chart, "I SPY" entered at No. 1, leading four new top-10 entries. ALLDAY PROJECT's "CRASH," which had topped the chart for two weeks, slipped to No. 2, while A2O LITE's debut single "NEON" arrived at No. 3, MEOVV's "GO HARD" at No. 9, and PLAVE's "Star Trace" at No. 10.
That chart blends Circle and Hanteo data with Apple Music Korea, airplay, and YouTube performance, so a debut at the top reflects both sales and streaming — the kind of across-the-board response that separates a strong opening from a genuinely dominant one.
Why the song is connecting
"I SPY" is a hybrid dance pop track with a heavy 808 bass and layered synths, built around sharp shifts between sections rather than one fixed groove. The lyrics use the phrase "I SPY" to capture the jittery, hyper-focused feeling of noticing someone you like — a small, specific idea that fits the group's youthful image better than a grander concept would.
The five-track mini album — which also includes "We Own This Street," "UPGRADE," "Super Major," and "Hubble Time" — leans into that same bright, restless energy. It's a tighter, more playful package than the full-length "Ode to Love," and the shorter runtime seems to have worked in its favor: there is no filler to skip on the way to the title track.
What comes next
With the album out, the trophy collected, and the chart peak secured, the next phase is endurance. NCT WISH will keep performing "I SPY" across music shows as the promotion cycle winds down, and the question now is how many more wins the song can stack before it does.
For a group that debuted only two years ago, the answer matters less than the pattern it's establishing. Four consecutive million-sellers, a fresh music show trophy, and a No. 1 debut on a combined chart is a resume that most rookies spend a career chasing — and NCT WISH got there in October.
